Koko’s Goulash

My stew came out GREAT!! According to Tomis, my little stew is a dish often served in Croatia! So go me!! I know there are a few bachelors that get on here, so this is what I did 😉 Five out of Five stars according to Hubby..

Koko’s Goulash
2 lbs. stew beef
3 minced garlic cloves
1/4 cup flour
LOT’S of paprika
4 large carrots
3 large potatoes
1 cup condensed beef broth
1/3 cup soy sauce
1 large onion (I used a huge sweet onion)
1 can tomato sauce (8 oz.)
1 tbsp cornstarch
pinch of dried thyme
1/2 cup red wine (I used cabernet)
1/3rd cup spicy bbq sauce
salt and pepper

Peal and chop up potatoes into 1/2 inch cubes and toss them on the bottom of a slow cooker (they are on sale just about everywhere right now). Peel and chop the carrots, toss them over potatoes. Take stew beef and put in large bowl, put flour over meat and use a spatula to turn the meat until coated. GENEROUSLY sprinkle paprika over meat. Add a bit of salt and pepper– use a spatula to turn a few more times, add soy sauce, stir a little more, then toss it over the potatoes and carrots. THEN, take the beef broth and tomato sauce… mix it in the bowl and then pour over meat. Chop up the onion and put over meat, then pour the wine over that 🙂 THEN, take the bbq sauce and slop it over the onions. Put the lid on your slow cooker and cook for 5 hours on high! Once it is about done, the broth may be thin… I like it thick with a nice gravy consistency, so I added a shallow spoonful of cornstarch and mixed it to the pot… add little by little until it it as thick at you like it. The last hour add a taste of thyme and salt and pepper as your tastes dictate.

  2. ** note from 12/9. Leave the bbq sauce out if you don’t like the tanginess. Add a GOOD amount of paprika for spice that you can’t taste, but will warm you on a winters night.
